NASH consultant Duncan Charman has rounded off a fantastic campaign targeting crucians at Johnson’s Lake in Surrey, adding recent specimens of 3 lb 13 oz and 3 lb 11 oz to bring his tally to 35 2 lb-plus fish since June.
Following a personal best to 4 lb 4 oz crucian in the summer the Aldershot, Hampshire all-rounder’s run of form continued right up till the end of October, the winning combination being sweetcorn with Crab and Krill Ballmaker Pellet
As usual, Duncan has been approaching the hard fished crucians of the Godalming AS venue differently to the other anglers around him: ‘Everyone seems to use feeders and spombs with large quantities of feed and I’m doing short six hour sessions so I’m only feeding the pellets moulded around the lead. I think even smaller species back off beds of bait if they’re used heavily, but that one mouthful of pellets is just so effective.’
Five inch hooklinks have also played a part in Duncan’s success, seeing him getting absolute one-toners from the usually shy biting fish.
Nash Ambassador Chris Petter has also been targeting crucians and set a target weight of 3 lb 12 oz which he recently achieved with this stunner. Once again Scope 10ft 1.75 lb rods, Ballmaker Pellets and sweetcorn was the winning combination. He also managed an immaculate common weighing 22 lb 6 oz, one of five in a short period whilst targeting the crucians and had fun taming them on Scope rods, 8 lb mainline, size 16 hooks and 5 lb fluorocarbon hooklinks.
Duncan is now moving his attention towards a campaign for a huge barbel through the winter.
