When the weather has permitted I’ve done a fair bit of surface fishing this year and not only have I been getting good numbers of fish, I’ve also managed to sort out some of the better ones!

There are two things which I really believe have made a big difference; one are the Bolt Machines which have definitely upped my catch rate and done away with having to concentrate for hours on that tiny little hook bait! The other big difference has been the Zig Flo line which is far and away the best surface fishing line I’ve used to date – the fish really have trouble seeing it!

Hook baits for surface fishing have always been pop-up boilies and I’ve caught on both Monster Squid and Scopex Squid, the latter being my favourite at the moment. Sometimes adding a bit of flavour to the mixers can give you an edge too and the Crustacean Extract is just brilliant – it’s a shame we have to tell anyone about it!
