24 hours on Manton new lake

Written by Nash Consultant:

" I've not done much UK fishing since catching Arnie at 45lb 12oz in late July, so it was nice to get out again this week "

I've just got back from a 24 hour soaking on Manton new lake, North Lincolnshire. Despite the driving rain from start to finish, after around an hour of searching I eventually managed to find a few fish head and shouldering out, right in the middle of the 27 acre lake.  I found a lovely spot in 5 ft of water and within 2 hours of getting the rods out I had this stunning 31lb 2oz mirror in the net.

Over the next 12 hours it kicked off big style , and I ended up with a total of 7 fish. The key for me was definitely finding the fish, banking them all over a light scattering of Nash Scopex squid ( the first time I have used the bait since 1996 ) .

The spot I was fishing was surrounded by patches of weed so I opted for 3ft confidence rigs made from a supple braid, balancing hookbaits over the top.

All in all it was a tiring night as I ended up running out of bait and having to drive home to get more. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to be back out again for another night this week.
